Questions & Answers Guide

 

1. What is the purpose of the Social Work Department Double Major (DMP) Program?

The purpose of the Social Work Department Double Degree Program is to enable students who are successfully pursuing their primary undergraduate degree to obtain a second undergraduate degree in social work and thus earn a double degree.

Within the scope of the program, students gain knowledge and skills to intervene in social problems at the individual, family, group, and community levels.

This guide has been prepared for informational purposes. All principles related to the Double Major Program are carried out within the scope of the Yalova University Double Major Program Guidelines.

3. What are the application requirements for the Double Degree Program?

To apply for the Social Work Double Degree Program:

• Be enrolled in the main degree program no earlier than the beginning of the 3rd semester and no later than the beginning of the 5th semester,

• Have successfully completed all courses in the main program by the time of application (no failed/repeated courses),

• Have a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00,

• Be in the top 20% of the class ranking.*

* Students who are not in the top 20% of the class ranking may apply if they meet the other requirements and do not have an admission score lower than the Social Services Department's minimum score for that year.

 

4. How are applications evaluated?

Applications are ranked according to the overall grade point average and evaluated within the quota.

If the grade point averages are equal, priority is given to the student with the higher placement score.

The final acceptance process is completed by the decision of the relevant Faculty Board, and the results are announced on the university website.

 

5. When do students accepted into the program register?

Registration procedures are carried out between the dates determined by the Senate.

It is not possible to register for more than one Double Major Program at the same time.

 

6. Who plans the courses?

The Double Degree Program Coordinator, appointed by the Department Chair, guides the student in planning their courses.

The balanced distribution of courses across semesters and the proper execution of the program are carried out under the supervision of the coordinator. It is the student's responsibility to communicate with the coordinator during the planning process.

 

7. How is course equivalence assessed?

The content and credit compatibility of courses taken in the major program and courses in the Bachelor's Program in Social Work are examined.

If there is content similarity (80% or higher), course equivalence is assessed by the Dual Major Program Coordinator and finalized by the Department Exemption and Equivalency Commission.

Exemption evaluation for courses involving fieldwork and supervision is carried out in accordance with the departmental board decision.

 

8. What are the success requirements and graduation criteria?

• Students can only receive a dual major diploma if they graduate from the first major program.

• The minimum GPA in the dual major program must be 2.00/4.00.

• The major GPA may fall below 2.50 for a maximum of one semester.

• If a student fails to take courses for two consecutive semesters without permission, they will be dismissed from the program.

• A total of 240 ECTS credits specified for the Social Work Bachelor's Program must be successfully completed.
